The short answer

Match the full product name, country of purchase and leaflet—not just the brand. Local and older versions can have different result layouts or instructions. This guide is a lookup checklist, not a claim that 2Lines supports every test.

A search result can look perfectly relevant while describing the wrong product. Brand names are a useful starting point, but they are not the final instruction reference.

What to find on the package

  • The complete product name, including words such as Early Result, Rapid Detection, digital, strip or midstream.
  • The country and language of the supplied instructions.
  • The result illustration, development time and final reading deadline.
  • The control indicator and the manufacturer’s contact or help page.

Keep that information available before asking someone to inspect a photograph. Packaging is often more useful than a guess based on the handle color.

A starting point by market

Three exact products: reading-time reference

Checked 18 September 2026 against the official sources linked below. These examples show why the model and country matter. They are a reading-time reference, not full instructions for performing a test or a ranking of which brand is best. Match your package first; if its leaflet differs, follow that leaflet and ask the manufacturer for clarification.

Exact product and marketWhen to readLate changes
First Response Early Result In-Stream — AustraliaRead at 3 minutes, within the 10-minute window.Disregard changes after 10 minutes.
First Response Dip & Read — AustraliaThe product page says results are ready in 5 minutes; its detailed steps describe development in about 2–5 minutes. No line after 5 minutes means invalid. Its FAQ says to disregard further changes to a negative result after 10 minutes.
Clearblue Rapid Detection — United StatesWait 3 minutes for a not-pregnant result or when testing early. A pregnant result may appear in 1 minute from the missed period. A blue control line is required.Read within 10 minutes; ignore later changes.

Sources by row: First Response Australia: Early Result In-Stream instructions; First Response Australia: Dip & Read instructions; Clearblue Rapid Detection: US leaflet (PDF) (P/N 506009-11, also linked from the current US product page). These timings do not transfer to digital tests or other models with a similar name.

In-Stream and Dip & Read are different instructions

The Australian First Response In-Stream instructions specify 5 seconds of urine contact. The Australian Dip & Read strip specifies 10 seconds, with urine below its printed maximum line. Those contact times are separate from the minutes spent waiting for a result. First Response Australia: Early Result In-Stream instructions; First Response Australia: Dip & Read instructions.

Write down the full product name before setting a timer. An instruction remembered from another box can be the wrong one even when both boxes say First Response. The table above summarizes reading time only; use the complete manufacturer directions for sampling, positioning and interpreting your exact test.

The product guides in this journal

Our First Response guide cites a specific US Early Result leaflet. Our Clearblue guide cites US Rapid Detection instructions and distinguishes other product names.

For brands and models not covered by the source links here, use the leaflet that came with the test. We have not verified model-specific reading times for every Equate, Pregnosis, Boots, Tesco or Life Brand version. If you cannot identify the product, contact the manufacturer or retailer. For a mark noticed late, see what the reading deadline means.

Translations and older forum posts

“Faint line,” “trait pâle” and similar descriptions may refer to the same visual uncertainty, but translating a phrase does not confirm product equivalence. Use the language version supplied with your test or a matching official translation.

An old image labeled “Clearblue Easy” or a forum comment about a store-brand test should not override current instructions. For general image uncertainty, return to the faint-line guide.
